Install from the VS Code Marketplace

In VS Code open Extensions, search for DevGhost and choose Install Pre-Release. The store build is Windows x64 only for now and updates itself.

A VSIX installed from this page does not update by itself. To update, download the new version here and install it over the old one; analyses, credits and the installation ID are kept.

Analysis works without an internet connection. Import an additional-credit file into the DevGhost app or IDE extension, also offline.

VSIX: Works in VS Code 1.95 or later and in Cursor, both tested. Cursor, Windsurf and VSCodium are editors built on VS Code; Windsurf and VSCodium should work but have not been tested yet.

First run

Windows app

Run the downloaded EXE, complete setup, then launch DevGhost Desktop from the Start menu.

Extension for VS Code and Cursor

For automatic updates, install DevGhost from the VS Code Marketplace. To install the downloaded VSIX instead, open Extensions → ⋯ → Install from VSIX, then choose the file.

Choose a project and period.

Add a local Git folder. Select authors and a period, or start with the built-in sample.

Analyzing local Git history needs no internet connection. Downloading DevGhost and buying credits require a connection; the credit file can be moved to an offline computer.

FAQ

Questions

What does free analysis include?

Every calendar month you can analyze 500 new commits for free. No subscription or bank card is needed. The unused monthly allowance does not roll over.

Does repeat analysis spend more credits?

If a result for the same commit SHA has already been paid for and saved in this installation, analyzing or force-recalculating it is free. A cached result that has not yet been paid for costs one credit.

What happens when credits run out?

Analysis will not start if the balance cannot cover it. Narrow the period or author selection, wait for the free allowance to renew, or top up when packs are on sale. There are no automatic charges.

Does my code leave my computer?

Code and analysis results stay on your computer. Models run locally without sending code to external LLMs. You decide who receives an exported report.
